Day 7 - Lake Louise - 08/08/13

Sadly came the day we had to leave Spring Creek :( We would miss this place, our destination  Lake Louise. The drive up through Banff National Park Road was very scenic, and along the way we passed under several dedicated wildlife bridges that connected the forests on either side of the highway.
We decided to first check into the campsite. On check in we were promptly warned about two bears roaming within the campground and to be vigilant...  Eeek! After a quick look around the campground, which was nestled in amongst the forest, we decided to head out.
Lake Louise itself is a serene place, a milky blue lake surrounded by mountains with tips of glaciers hanging over the ridges. We decided to rent a canoe out onto the lake and get a better look. After coordinating ourselves to actually go in a straight line, we headed to the far side of the lake which gave a perfect view of the upper peaks that looked to be covered in a very deep layer of snow. We had hired the canoe for an hour, so had to hurry back. After impressing ourselves with what seemed like our high speed, our tracking app brought us back down to earth by telling us we had maxed out at a paltry 3.9MPH. Our total distance however was a more impressive 2.6 miles. After our long drive and late start, the day was already quite late so we decided to leave the rest of Lake Louise for tomorrow.
After visiting a local shop to stock up on supplies, we decided that despite the setting sun and warning of bears on our doorstep, that tonight was the night to unpack our barbecue. However, we didn't quite account for the time this would take to prepare and by the time we were cooking, the completely unlit and sparsely populated campgrounds were in complete darkness. After hurriedly eating our mostly cooked burgers and sausages, we hurried back into our camper to settle down for the night.
